COMMERCIAL LED LIGHTING INSTALLATION AND UPGRADES IN SYDNEY

If your premises still run on fluorescent battens, metal halide high bays or halogen downlights, LED lighting upgrades can reduce the power those fittings draw and cut the time spent replacing failed tubes and lamps. Spectra Electrical plans and carries out commercial LED upgrades across Greater Sydney, for anything from a single tenancy to a whole building. We start with what’s already on site: the fittings, how many hours they run, the work done under them and any emergency lights on the same circuits. From there, we recommend where to replace fittings, where to retrofit and where controls would help. Then we schedule the LED installation around your trading hours and tenants.

WHY CHOOSE SPECTRA ELECTRICAL FOR COMMERCIAL LED UPGRADES?

EXPERIENCED COMMERCIAL ELECTRICIANS

Spectra Electrical is a family-owned electrical contractor with more than 20 years of experience serving Sydney. Our electricians work across commercial electrical installations, repairs and maintenance, so we can assess the existing electrical infrastructure alongside your proposed lighting upgrade.

LIGHTING THAT SUITS YOUR PREMISES

A warehouse with high ceilings needs different lighting from an office, shop or underground car park. We'll consider the existing fittings, mounting heights, light distribution and the activities taking place in each area before recommending replacements.

INSTALLATION PLANNED AROUND YOUR OPERATIONS

Replacing lighting in an occupied building may involve isolating circuits, accessing work areas or temporarily closing sections of the premises. We can discuss access requirements, suitable work periods and staged installation options before work begins.

CLEAR SCOPE AND PRICING

The cost of LED upgrades depends on the number and type of fittings, access conditions, existing wiring and any additional electrical work. We'll assess the requirements and explain the proposed installation scope before providing a quote.

SERVICE ACROSS GREATER SYDNEY

Spectra Electrical serves commercial and industrial properties across the Sydney Basin, including the North Shore, Northern Beaches, Western Sydney and parts of the lower Blue Mountains. Contact us with your location and project requirements to confirm availability.

PLANNING AN LED UPGRADE

COMMERCIAL LED LIGHTING UPGRADES FOR DIFFERENT PREMISES

LED lighting upgrades can reduce electricity consumption and ongoing maintenance while providing illumination better suited to the building’s activities. The type of fitting and installation approach will depend on where the lighting is used.

Offices and Commercial Workspaces

LED panels, downlights and other commercial fittings can replace ageing fluorescent and halogen lighting. Appropriate light levels, colour temperature and glare control are particularly relevant in offices where employees work at desks and computer screens.

Warehouses and Industrial Facilities

High-bay LED lighting can replace older metal halide and fluorescent systems in warehouses, workshops and industrial buildings. Ceiling height, shelving arrangements, equipment movement and access for installation all influence the choice of fittings.

Retail and Hospitality Premises

Shops, showrooms, restaurants and hospitality venues often need a combination of general and task lighting. LED replacements can improve consistency and reduce energy use while maintaining suitable colour rendering and the lighting characteristics required for the space.

Strata Buildings and Shared Areas

Corridors, stairwells, common rooms and car parks may operate lighting for extended periods. LED upgrades can reduce the frequency of lamp replacements, particularly in areas where access is difficult. Suitable sensors and timers may provide further savings where lighting doesn't need to remain on continuously.

Outdoor and Car Park Lighting

External LED floodlights, wall-mounted fittings and car park lighting need to suit the conditions in which they're installed. Weather exposure, mounting positions, coverage and glare should all be considered before replacing existing equipment.

WHAT TO CONSIDER BEFORE UPGRADING TO LED LIGHTING

Replacing an existing lamp with an LED equivalent isn’t always the best solution. Some installations benefit from complete fitting replacements, particularly where old control gear, damaged components or unsuitable light distribution could limit the performance of the new lighting.

An assessment should consider:

The electricity savings from an LED upgrade depend on the existing technology, the new fittings and how long the lights operate. Buildings using older, inefficient lighting for extended hours may have more substantial opportunities for savings than premises that already have efficient fittings.

For larger projects, comparing the existing and proposed lighting loads can help businesses assess likely electricity savings alongside installation costs.

LED INSTALLATION AND RELATED COMMERCIAL ELECTRICAL SERVICES

Commercial lighting work sometimes reveals other electrical requirements. Older circuits may need attention, switch positions may need changing, or a refurbishment may call for additional power and lighting points.

As an established commercial electrical contractor, Spectra Electrical can assess related work as part of the project, including:

Emergency and exit lighting must meet separate operational and regulatory requirements. Where an upgrade involves designated emergency fittings, these need to be assessed under the applicable requirements rather than treated as ordinary LED replacements. Spectra also provides exit and emergency lighting services for commercial buildings.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COMMERCIAL LED LIGHTING UPGRADES

How much does a commercial LED lighting upgrade cost?

Costs depend on the number of lights being replaced, the fittings selected and the labour required. A straightforward replacement in an accessible office may cost considerably less per fitting than a warehouse installation requiring elevated work platforms. Wiring alterations, lighting controls and the disposal of old equipment can also affect the quote. Spectra Electrical can assess your premises and provide pricing based on the proposed work.

Commercial tenants can generally arrange lighting improvements with the property owner’s approval, subject to their lease conditions. Some leases distinguish between replacing existing lamps and making permanent changes to electrical fittings or wiring. It’s worth confirming who will pay for the installation, who owns the replacement fittings and whether any reinstatement obligations apply before commissioning the work.

In NSW, licensed electricians must issue and submit a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) for electrical installation work, including applicable lighting replacements and alterations. The certificate confirms that the required electrical safety and compliance testing has been completed. Building or facilities managers should retain this documentation with their electrical maintenance records.

NSW’s former Commercial Lighting Energy Savings Formula under the Energy Savings Scheme ended on 31 March 2026. Other incentive arrangements may apply to certain eligible small-business lighting upgrades, but availability depends on the current scheme requirements, the premises and the approved provider. Businesses should confirm eligibility before including a rebate in their project budget.

Removed fluorescent tubes require appropriate handling because they contain small amounts of mercury. They shouldn’t be placed in general waste or broken during removal. Old fittings, control gear and other electrical components may also require separate recycling or disposal arrangements. Ask your electrician whether removal, transport and disposal are included in the installation quote.
