WHY CHOOSE SPECTRA ELECTRICAL FOR TIGER TAIL INSTALLATION AND REPAIRS?

FAST SCHEDULING AND SITE COORDINATION

Work near overhead lines often needs to be sorted before scaffolding, plant or other site work can begin. We respond promptly, assess what’s involved and arrange the electrical work or network coordination required for your site.

SERVICE MAINS AND OVERHEAD CONNECTIONS

Overhead lines can include distribution mains running along the street and service lines connecting individual properties. Different rules apply depending on the line and electricity network involved. Our Level 2 electricians can identify the line, explain what work can be carried out by an Accredited Service Provider and coordinate with the network operator when its authorisation or attendance is required.

CLEAR PRICING BEFORE WORK STARTS

Costs can vary with access, the type of overhead line, the work required and any network charges. We’ll explain the scope before work begins and provide a clear quote for the work Spectra Electrical is carrying out.

COVERAGE ACROSS GREATER SYDNEY

Spectra Electrical works across the Sydney Basin, including the Northern Beaches, North Shore, Western Sydney and the lower Blue Mountains. If you’re unsure whether we cover your site, contact us with the suburb and a brief description of the work.

MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCE

Spectra Electrical is a family-owned electrical contractor with more than 20 years of experience. We’ll explain what needs to happen, who needs to be involved and what the next step is before work near the lines begins.

Importance of tiger tails

WHAT TIGER TAILS DO ON OVERHEAD POWER LINES

Tiger tails are high-visibility covers used to make overhead electrical lines easier to see. The yellow-and-black covers give crane operators, scaffolders, trades and other people on site a clearer visual warning that live power lines are nearby.

Tiger tails on power lines can help draw attention to the electrical hazard, but they are not electrical insulation and do not make it safe to work closer to live lines. Required approach distances and other site controls still apply.

WHEN TIGER TAILS MAY BE REQUIRED

Tiger tails may form part of the safety controls for work near overhead power lines. Common situations include:

The right control depends on the line, its location, the type of work and the electricity network. In some situations, a disconnection or another control may be required instead.

TIGER TAIL INSTALLATION FAQS

How long can tiger tails stay on overhead power lines?

There isn’t one fixed period for every installation. Longer projects may require inspection, adjustment or replacement. The appropriate period depends on the network operator’s requirements, site conditions and how long the work is expected to continue.

Keep workers, plant and equipment clear of the affected line and arrange for the tiger tails to be checked. Site workers should not try to reposition them. Contact the network operator or the electrical contractor coordinating the work.

If tiger tails are identified as a required control, arrange them before scaffolding or other work begins in the affected area. Planning early also gives time for any safety advice, network approvals or electrical work needed before site setup.

Removal should be arranged through the authorised party responsible for the line rather than handled by site workers. The process can vary with the network and line involved. Spectra Electrical can advise what needs to happen when the covers are no longer required.
